Lauren Berlant: Lauren Berlant is George M. Pullman Professor of English and Director of the Lesbian and Gay Studies Project at the University of Chicago. She is author of The Anatomy of National Fantasy: Hawthorne, Utopia, and Everyday Life<\/em> (1991), The Queen of America Goes to Washington City: Essays on Sex and Citizenship<\/em> (1997), and the forthcoming The Female Complaint: the Unfinished Business of Sentimentality in American Culture<\/em> (2008). She has also edited a number of volumes, including Intimacy<\/em> (2000), Our Monica, Ourselves<\/em> (2001), Compassion: The Culture and Politics of an Emotion<\/em> (2004), and the forthcoming On the Case<\/em> (2007).
